Training
Standard Schnauzers are highly intelligent and learn quickly. Given their enthusiasm and intelligence this breed excels in obedience, agility, herding and therapy dogs. The owner must be consistent when disciplining and training. If not trained properly they will get away with whatever they can and soon “rule the house” if allowed.
We recommend registering your new puppy in obedience school, most reputable schools will allow you to start obedience between 11 and 12 weeks of age once your puppy has received it’s send vaccination. While obedience training is great for bounding and socializing your new pet it is more beneficial to the new puppy owners as it can provide a refresher training for experienced owners as well as be a great learning experience for the entire family to ensure consistence in training the right behavior. The time you spend with your new puppy will pay off in the long run to ensure you get the dog you always dreamed of.
The most critical time of the development for a new born puppy is between the weeks 3 and 12. Once you have taken you puppy home introduce them to the people, other dogs and as many of different environments possible. Try to avoid the leash free parks and confirmation shows where there many be a lot of dogs until their second vaccinations.
If you puppy like to nibble on you hand or other items, just gently squeeze their muzzle and hold it while saying the no command.
An 8 -12 week puppy has a very small bladder and should go outside frequently. Take the puppy outside right after playing or drinking water and approximately 15 minutes after he or she eats.
Remember no food or water after 8:00 p.m.
